Kathrin Günter stands in the tradition of artists, who, as shamans, offer parts of themselves at the same time: the performative moment that determines their work, is especially present in her Tarot Readings, and runs through her entire oeuvre as a common thread. Her work makes it her goal to initiate a reflection on everyday magic and the dominant signs of our time.
Voodoo and Tarot are more than just popular culture and everyday magic, but part of a cultural memory and complex systems of knowledge, which Kathrin Günter re-contextualizes in her work and links them to contemporary visual culture.
The artist has also been consistently engaged for many years with the dominant image culture of our time: celebrity cult and paparazzi photography; phenomena that, in the context of dominant digital culture and omnipresent self-optimization, sustainably shape our self-image, fashion and socioculture.
